ENGINEERING › INTERIOR FINISHING

Interior finishing—a UNICAT is more than a vehicle full of furniture.

Of course, you should feel comfortable and relaxed in your new home—which is why we are glad to leave the decision on materials, fabrics and colours to you.
But since your new house rolls on wheels, where it's different from a stationary house you should rely on UNICAT's experience.

For instance, your house on wheels has no cellar where you could hide the heating system; power doesn't automatically come from a socket, water doesn't come out of the wall, and waste water doesn't simply disappear down a drain.
Installation space must be provided for technical systems exactly where all the heavy and sensitive equipment in a vehicle belongs, protected from frost and dust.
So if you have definite ideas about layout, don't be surprised if we contradict you—that too is a part of the advisory service of UNICAT.

Once the planning is complete, the execution begins.
Perfect workmanship is fine but not sufficient.
The furniture and fittings of an expedition vehicle are exposed to different and much greater stresses and loads than the furniture in your home.
One time your vehicle is in Alaska, at -40 °C; another time it's Namibia at +50 °C; one time the relative humidity is 90 %, another time it's only 20 %—and as you move between these extremes, the furniture is subject to permanent tremors.

To enable it to withstand these loads, UNICAT furniture is not simply built but is CAD-designed. Based on standard calculation methods the number and type of furniture connections, the number and position of the hinges, drawers and closures are defined.
Even the butts of panels and boards are designed so that the load-bearing parts can be perfectly connected to the body.
After all, the furniture, which later is joined with the body to form a single solidly connected unit, should be just as long-lived as the body.

And in 10 years, should you desire a change, the front panels simply can be replaced—thanks to CAD we know the dimensions of each piece of furniture to the millimetre.
